Our main task is to make it possible for everyone to be able to experience and enjoy Stockholm’s archipelago, with its vibrant cultural landscape and wealth of opportunities for recreational activities.
We preserve the pastoral landscape on our lands through grazing animals and farming. We develop businesses within recreation and tourism by leasing our buildings out to archipelago entrepreneurs, who run youth hostels, holiday villages, restaurants, waterside eating places, guest jetties and more besides. This creates jobs in the archipelago and offers a good service for visitors. We protect the environment by using special toilet facilities, composting waste and making use of the natural eco cycle.

What we do
- Work to support an open agricultural landscape and preserve the land using
grazing animals and farming.
- Manage forests and land using small-scale methods, which preserve the natural environment.
- Work with fauna conservation, for example to boost white-tailed eagle and
seal populations, and monitor protected areas for animals.
- Carefully preserve our collection of cultural and historical buildings.
- Maintain toilet/washing facilities at around 190 locations, benefitting both recreational life as well as the environment.
- Supervise some 60 areas with the help of rangers, who can often lend a helping hand to visitors.
- Ensure that there are facilities such as fresh water, rest houses and sometimes even saunas at the most popular natural anchorages.
- Own a number of archipelago youth hostels and other tourist centres that are run by archipelago companies.
- Supported by around 21,000 individuals, organisations and companies, who are friends of the Foundation.
